I would like to move the location of a file for a very
large (1.5TB) log shipped database on a stand-by server.
The problem is that when the database is ATTACHed, it's
automatically recovered, and unable to restore more logs.
It seems to behave the same regardless of if the database
is in Read-only or Loading state when it is DETACHed.
Can anyone think of a way to accomplish this? This database was about 1.2TB 8 months ago when it took a
week to restore and then a few more days to catch up with
logs. Unfortunately, the drive set on the destination
doesn't match the original in sizes so I find myself
needing to add more space and moving one file from an old
drive that currently has two.
We use this server as a Disaster Recovery warm stand-by
and it is located at a somewhat distant, unmanned co-
location facility.
I can perform a full back-up on this DB in about 4 hours
with 2 Ultrium 2 drives but the restore is soooo painful.
I guess if nobody can think of something, I'll wait until
our next DR test and do a full restore then.
