Determine what SQL DB Report Server uses
report server is using?
The information is encrypted within the config file and the rsconfig
utility looks like it can only be used to set new values.
Thanks.
-- Brianby default (unless you changed the name during installation), it should be
ReportServer & ReportServerTempDB.
if you did change the default name, look for xxx & xxxTempDB in SQL Server.

I was hoping that the installation of report server would be able to
show me which SQL server it was using (SQL was not installed locally),
but it doesn't look as though there is a way to view any of that
configuration information.
I ended up monitoring a few SQL instances looking for connections from
the report server to determine which SQL box it was using. Too bad that
info isn't more accessible through some of the tools.
determine the SP level of a client install?
How can I tell what service pack has been installed on a local (non-server) client installation of SQL Server 2000?
I'd appreciate any feedback
Thanks,
John
Have you looked at Help | About within Query Analyzer?

Without the SQL Server running? May be you can check the SQL Server errorlog
(C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instancename>\LOG).The first section
is the output of @.@.version.The numbers in the first line indicate the
service pack level.
- 8.00.760(SP3/SP3a)

Detecting IIS
My name is Erin. When attempting to install SQL Server Express on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pak 2, the installation freezes at "Detecting IIS...". I have been bopped around Microsoft Support since Monday. I even opened a case, but I have no success. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great question Erin.
There are several threads in the Setup Forum that may help.
Check out

and
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=54363&SiteID=1|||I made it through the installation of Net.Framework 2.0. with the SDk kit. I've installed the SQLServer, Express without any problems. Now I need to configure the Startup kit for SDK, and Net Framework 2.0. I finally got the configuration wizard, and I am asked if I have the IIS installed on my computer. I don't think I can get the IIS on the Home, ed. There may be a substitute. I ran into a support I believe some time ago. I am looking now. Thought I was alone where this matter is concerned. Will get back if I find the support for IIS.

Detect installed version?
Now when I look at the Add/Remove Programs dialog I have several items which mention SP1 on the SQL Server items.
But when I request the server properties in Managemnt Studio I see the version number 9.0.2047. Shouldn't this be 9.1.XXXX?
How can I be sure the SP1 is correcty insatlled?
Stievie
If you look on the download page under the Quick Details, the version number is listed as 9.00.2047

Desperatly Need Help with MSDE installation and Config
Hi all, I know read all the posts already up on this subject... Hear me out.
Can anyone give an easy to understand, and I mean easy method for installing MSDE and configuring it so that I can connect to my server using Visual Studio.NET C#. I am having no end of troubles and I don't really understand why. I can log into osql using
osql -S BIGJ -E
that gets me to
1>
No problems so far
but when I try to connect using
SqlConnection("Server=BIGJ;DataBase=registeredUsers;Integrated Security=SSPI");
I am having no luck and I don't really understand why
Here is the stack trace
[SqlException: Login failed for user 'BIGJ\ASPNET'.]
System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Boolean& isInTransaction)
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction)
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open()
ADOAccess.WebForm1.Button1_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\adoaccess\webform1.aspx.cs:52
System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e)
System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.System.Web.UI.IPostBackEventHandler.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument)
System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument)
System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData)
System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain()
I think I am not understanding the fundamentals of SQL server or something so if anyone can help or point me to a good tutorial that will help me not only solve my problem but also understand what is going onas well.
Thanks everyone
Hi
You must add the user "MACHINENAME\ASPNET" in your case "BIGJ\ASPNET" to every db you run in your PC (localhost), that way .net can log on the db.
To do that (and much more) you can use this free tool:
http://forums.asp.net/631069/ShowPost.aspx

|||Thanks for the tip, I have SqlWDA installed but when I try and login it just hangs, I try using Windows integrated option and the SQL Login Option no luck just a frozen webpage.
Can you explain this, when I make a SqlConnection using Visual Studio dialog and press tesst connection it passes, if I copy that connection string into code I get the error I explained above? I'm really stuck
